Don't. Seriously.By all means, keep a knife on you just in case. But never ever use it as your main weapon. It's so short, you're basically hugging the zombie, but do you really need me to tell you that?
It's all about the weapons. Seriously. In case of a Zombie Apocalypse™, you don't want to meet the shambling masses of the undead with your bare fists. As a certain TV show has told us time and again, the noise of a firearm attracts more zombies, so even if you've got unlimited ammo (which, let's face it, you don't) these noisy weapons should never be your first choice. In The Walking Dead show, most characters seem to be fine with using knifes and similar short melee weapons. If you want to go all Rambo on your rotting opponents, be my guest, but don't count on me to scrap your remains off the concrete afterwards. So this is about weapons that are quiet (relatively) easy to come by effective against the undead as safe as possible for you to use. With that said, may you live in interesting times!
